The history of plastic surgery of the nose (rhinoplasty)

Rhinoplasty - as it was

Since ancient times in India every day life interesting tradition: the captive enemies cut off their noses - so wrong it was easier to notice in the crowd.
Resourceful doctors come up with original replacement surgery. From the central part of the skin of the forehead, which was located between the eyebrows, they cut the flap, which at the turn of 180 ° well acclimatized to the place where previously was the nose.

Nostrils in such original nose formed by wooden tubes. The shape of the new nose was far from ideal, but still better than none. As the war between the tribes in India were uncommon case, the army noseless candidates for plastic surgery is not decreased.

When English colonists arrived in India, they were struck by the level of development of nasal surgery in the wild, feudal country. And despite the racial prejudice, were forced to recognize the priority of the Hindus in rhinoplasty.

In 1814 the British military doctor was made first in Europe rhinoplasty. She also was reconstructive and completely copied Indian technology. The operation lasted, it's ridiculous to say, 15 minutes.

In his notebooks surgeon left a message that the new nose looks like an absolutely natural .... A hole in the forehead of the patient healed within three months.

It took another 100 years before the surgeons come to grips with a more pressing problem - the improvement of the natural shape of the nose.

For the first time such a cosmetic operation was conducted in 1898 in Berlin by Dr. Jacques Joseph.

Surgeon ventured to shorten the nose 28 year old man, who both suffered because of his lack of that shy to go out. To everyone's surprise, the result of the first in the history of rhinoplasty was successful, and within a few months, Jacques Joseph stood before the Berlin Medical Society report on their achievements.

Began practical and scientific work. Surgeon appeared disciples. But in 1933 Hitler came to power, and many talented Jewish doctors were forced to leave Germany. Jacques Joseph went to Prague. And one of his students, Gustav Aufriht, emigrated to the United States, where he founded the classical school of modern rhinoplasty.

Aufriht and his followers reached perfection in the standardization of the ideal shape of the nose. Many surgeons today are skeptical "Aufriht 'noses. There is even the term "syndrome of standard rhinoplasty - unnaturally thin nasal bridge, slightly upturned tip of a sharp and small, open nostrils.

Today, in a fashion more natural noses. Plastic surgery has revised his views on some things. Much attention is now been given to the anatomical features of the nose. If the patient is curved wall, the operation must combine with the medical procedure to restore nasal breathing.

A new qualitative leap is experiencing today reconstructive rhinoplasty. Now you can correct any abortive work of the previous surgeon, even if the nose was cut too much tissue. Modern techniques make it possible to create a new beautiful nose with cartilage taken, for example, from the ear of the patient.
